The eco-industrial park outside Norrköping consists of a waste incineration plant that sends steam to fuel a grain based ethanol production plant for biofuel production, a biogas plant and a carbondioxide factory. The waste energy sends electricity and district heating to Norrköping, and the residual steam to the ethanol production plant.
Industry Park of Sweden (IPOS) is in Helsingborg, Sweden. The industrial park concept is based on sharing resources, as well as costs of infrastructure and other assets. Recovered energy provides competitive advantages through reduced energy costs and reduced environmental impact for users.
To meet the goal of developing a green industrial park, the city has welcomed companies that focus on innovations, renewable materials and resource-efficient production. They include wooden-building manufacturer Lindbäcks Bygg and the SunPine bio-refinery. Lindbäcks Bygg is Sweden’s leading manufacturer of prefabricated wooden buildings.
The industrial park concept is based on sharing resources, as well as costs of infrastructure and other assets. Recovered energy provides competitive advantages through reduced energy costs and reduced environmental impact for users. There are a number of plants owned by different companies and conducting different operations in IPOS.
Currently, the use of biogas in Norrköping is limited to city buses, garbage trucks and heat and power production. Furthermore, almost 25 percent of the locally produced biogas is flared in sites spread across the municipality, each producing amounts too small to be economically feasible to recover. Fig. 4.
In 2011 a number of events transpired which, nine years later, would lead to the little municipality being named Sweden’s most innovative municipality. Joel Oresten, Claes Lundberg and Bengt Gunnarsson had all worked at Orkla, and had grown up in the region.
