Clarifying how DC bias fields affect the magnetic properties of soft magnetic composites (SMCs) plays a vital role in optimizing the material design of magnetic components. In this paper, composite SMCs composed of FeSi with high DC-bias performance and FeSiAl with low loss were fabricated using the phosphating process.
Therefore, researchers should pay more attention to the magnetic properties under the influence of the DC bias field. Due to their high saturation flux density (Bs) and good DC bias performance, gas-atomized FeSi SMCs are generally selected as cores of inductors or reactors for high-power applications in a large DC bias field.
The influence of FeSi content on the comprehensive magnetic properties of FeSiAl/FeSi SMCs in DC bias fields was investigated. The DC bias performance, saturation magnetic field and saturation flux density of samples are gradually enhanced with the content increase of FeSi with higher K, λ and Bs.
Obviously, a higher FeSi content gives rise to a larger Bs and corresponding saturation field strength. In other words, when the FeSi content increases, the anti-saturation ability of FeSiAl/FeSi SMCs is gradually enhanced, keeping the magnetization state away from saturation. This is why the sample with more FeSi owns better DC bias performance.
Meanwhile, special emphasis has been placed on the magnetic properties of SMCs with superimposing DC bias fields. The dependence of the SMCs’ magnetization state on the DC bias field and FeSi content, which can be revealed by Maxwell simulation, were found to be the key factors determining core loss.
This indicates that the DC bias field can obviously change the magnetization state of FeSiAl/FeSi SMCs. Meanwhile, the magnetization state can determine the core loss when samples are subjected to greater DC bias excitations.
However, DC bias can also cause CT saturation, and the resultant measurement errors may lead to relay mal-operation during steady states and through-faults. The impact of …
