A peaking power plant, also known as a 'peaker plant', is a power plant that grid operators use to meet particularly high electricity demand on the grid. These plants supply power that is typically high in cost and greenhouse gas emissions.
A peaker power plant is a type of power plant that generates power for limited hours each year. It spends most of its time on call, ready to quickly start up at times of peak demand. Grid operators maintain these plants to ensure they can be ready during rare but dangerous moments on the grid.
