With the large-scale integration of centralized renewable energy (RE), the problem of RE curtailment and system operation security is becoming increasingly prominent. As a promising solution technology, energy storage system (ESS) has gradually gained attention in many fields.
Abstract: Integration of an energy storage system (ESS) into a large-scale grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power plant is highly desirable to improve performance of the system and overcome the stochastic nature of PV power generation.
In , the ESS has a certain guiding effect on the practical application of energy storage; however, a single ESS reduces the system economy .
China is relatively a late starter in research of large-scale energy storage systems (ESSs) and energy storage power stations. However, China has witnessed rapid development in early-stage application, such as system integration and function verification, and it has built up several large-scale battery-based energy storage power stations.
This ESS has power ranging from several to tens of megawatts, typically 10 and 20 MW, and discharge duration ranging from 15 min to 4 h. The system circuits have 1 or 2 MW power. The system connects to a 10-kV or above (35 and 110-kV) grid. The system is composed of several energy storage circuits in parallel.
