A 30 kV (kilovolt) voltage rating is applied to a cable designed to operate in an electrical system where the nominal voltage is 30,000 volts.
30 kV cable is one of the most popular voltage ratings listed in IEC 60038 (IEC Standard Voltages) and one of those listed in IEC 60502 Part 2: Cables for rated voltages from 6 kV (Um = 7,2 kV) up to 30 kV (Um = 36 kV). Voltage ratings covered by this IEC Standard include:
30kV cables are more commonly unarmoured under standard IEC 60502-2, but the additional protection of armoured wires and tapes can be specified where mechanical protection is required, whether by regulation or installation design.
Waterblocking layers are also commonly specified on 30kV cables where the installation environment may see them in cable ducts liable to flooding or in waterlogged ground. Longitudinal and/or radial waterblocking tapes can provide protection in the event of ingress.
